No more struggling on cold-weather mornings with this simple formula.

Building a capsule wardrobe for every season is a process we’re all familiar with. Winter can be the most fun of them all, as experimenting with layers gives you almost endless options. Having a rail full of staple pieces that you can switch out and wear in a number of ways is not only sustainable but makes the whole process of choosing an outfit much easier.
Knitwear is fantastic for this formula. You can layer roll necks under a sweater, sweater vests over a shirt or wool trousers over trusty thermals. The basics really are the best, and I’ve listed a few of my solid favourite options below to simplify your winter outfit planning.
Whistles - Collar Midi Knit Dress
This oatmeal-coloured knit dress would look just as good paired with warming boots as it would with your favourite trainers. Throw an overcoat or a puffer jacket over this and you’re good to go. The straight, relaxed fit keeps the look casual despite its premium knit feel.
Roll Neck Top
H&M - Fitted Polo-Neck Top
A serious staple in anyone’s wardrobe lineup. The roll neck is the king of layering and works with just about anything. This trusty long sleeve will ensure you stay cosy and super stylish underneath whatever else you’ve picked out for the day.
Open Collar Sweater
& Other Stories - Relaxed Collared Sweater
Need something to throw on with a pair of jeans that isn’t your oldest sweatshirt? This relaxed-fitting sweater has a touch of Parisian style with its casual silhouette and simple stripe.
Loose Fitting, Straight-Leg Trousers
Whistles - Barrel Leg Trousers
Trousers with a slightly wide leg are my favourite fit as they never fail to look easy and effortless. This barrel leg pair come in khaki or navy with a mid-rise fit. Add a roll neck knit jumper and brogues for a super polished daytime look.
