APUJAN is a London-based womenswear label founded by designer Apu Jan, debuting in Autumn/ Winter 2013 London Fashion Week. The designs are renowned for integrating patterns and knitwear techniques to illustrate themes inspired by fantasy and literature.
The inspiration for the designs came from many different places, often associated with books, space fantasy and imagination of the past. Each season, inspired by a list of books, Apu Jan creates a story containing his favourite elements, leading the audience to experience the fantasy world of his imagination. Surrounded by beautiful material, elements such as fossils of dinosaurs, roses, sheep, and space related objects could often be found in APUJAN designs, threading through the stories of every season.
APUJAN continues working with his original, and exclusively developed fabrics, including digital embroidery, semi-translucent jacquard fabric, jersey knitted jacquard and digital print, in combination with fantasy style accessories made from 3-D printing, floral art design, and precious metals. The patterns on the designs use the common elements seen in the brand, including dinosaur skeletons, forests, deer, goldfish, roses, mirrors, moons, satellites, virtual projections, vector graphic points and lattice-like digital grid patterns. The sustainable elements are in the design and quality of the material that APUJAN use to give longevity to the clothes.
There are over 100 pieces in the Spring/Summer 2021 collection, and 32 pieces displayed at the show. The designs combine the details of traditional oriental garments with the silhouette of sc- fi imagination. These garments include pure silk knitwear, chiffon shirts, chiffon printed dress, jacquard coats and sports jackets, Formal gowns, PM 2.5 facemasks, neckerchief, aprons and hats are also featured in the show.
