The Pattern Project: Bring personality to your home with DFS’ new patterned chair collection!

DFS is excited to announce the launch of The Pattern Project collection, designed in partnership with interiors influencers and pattern experts Katie Woods (@comedowntothewoods) and Emily Murray (@pinkhouseliving).

Designed to celebrate the joy of pattern and the emotions it evokes, the curated range of six armchairs is available in-store and online.

Katie and Emily are renowned for their bright and beautiful interiors styles and passion for all things pattern, making them the perfect collaborators for The Pattern Project collection. They’ve worked closely with the DFS design team to create six pattern chairs, drawing on the emotions that have inspired them over the past year: Connect, Play, Dream, Hope, Calm and Kind.

From geometric lines to animal prints and whimsical watercolours, these pattern chairs work for any corner of the home, whether you’re looking to brighten a bedroom, liven up a living space or add a touch of creativity to the kitchen.

Explaining the inspiration behind the range, Emily Murray comments, “Katie and I wanted to create a collection of armchairs that encapsulated positive feelings and attitudes, to bring this positivity into people’s homes with a variety of designs that appealed to various tastes and worked with different décor schemes. The collection is also designed with the whole house in mind, with chairs that suit every room, from a chic home office to a comfortable sitting room.”

Expanding on this, Katie Woods explains that, “When it came to creating this collection with DFS, Emily and I reflected on the past couple of years and thought a lot about how everything has changed. We drew inspiration from the thoughts and feelings that carried us through the trickier months of the pandemic and chose patterns and colours that we felt brought those feelings to life. We deliberately chose colours and patterns that would empower people and that they could feel confident to use in their homes. We developed designs that would work in harmony with existing pieces, but also created some options for people to experiment with bolder design choices too. Above all, we wanted the chairs to evoke positive feelings. The project has been a joy to work on and we hope that shows in the designs.”

Lou Petersen, Design Director at DFS, said: ‘At DFS, we’re lucky to have our own dedicated in-house design team and design studio, which means we’re able to bring our creative ideas and the latest trends to life in new ranges for our customers. We’re delighted to have been able to work with Katie and Emily to create this exclusive range of patterned fabric chairs - their love for pattern, colour and fun really shines through. At DFS, we’re seeing our customers becoming more confident with colour, pattern and mixing and matching, and these chairs work brilliantly as standalone statement pieces, or as stylish additions to an existing look. We’re really forward to seeing how customers make these pieces their own in their own homes!’

The Pattern Project Collection

1. The Play Pattern Chair

A real showstopper, the Play Pattern Chair is inspired by Emily’s love for homes that encourage fun and play. An electric blue base complete with subtle textured circles is offset by a bold new take on animal print, with a mixture of bright zebra and leopard motifs emblazoned onto a cream background.

The look is topped off by pink fringing around the chair base and a matching electric blue round cushion sporting pink pom poms. The ultimate statement piece, this chair is perfect for those who want to go bold and inject some fun into their space.

2. The Hope Pattern Chair

The Hope chair is inspired by the sunrise - a symbol of hope and new beginnings. This chair’s low-slung seat and exposed wooden frame offer a nod to retro style, while the pattern fabric, complete with a repeating dotted semicircle texture, is designed to echo the shape of the rising sun.

Complemented by a soft velvet base in a warm ochre shade and a half sun bolster cushion in a rich orange, this chair oozes warmth, comfort, and relaxation.

3. The Dream Pattern Chair

A delicately curved dress chair with soft ash grey fabric complete with clouds drifting by - positively dreamy! The chair makes a great bedroom or dressing room chair, thanks to its simple, elegant upholstery, raised dark wooden legs, and compact footprint.

The ideal piece for those that want to inject pattern in a more subtle way, this chair looks effortlessly elegant styled with soft textures of velvet, boucle or faux fur.

4. The Calm Pattern Chair

When the world outside feels uncertain, we often turn to the grounding, calming effect of nature to seek solace, and the soothing effect of nature was the key inspiration behind the Calm Pattern Chair. This design mixes the natural texture of wood with the comforting softness of velvet, here printed with a watercolour pattern which reflects the colours and the movement of calm waters.

Designed to be the perfect window seat or reading spot, the Calm Pattern Chair offers the ideal place to pause and take a moment in an increasingly busy world.

5. The Kind Pattern Chair

The chair’s patterned fabric is inspired by traditional Japanese cherry blossom designs, a flower used as a symbol of kindness. Offering a new take on this traditional motif, this design complete with romantic willow branches incorporates shades of neo mint, denim blue and dusky pink, together with dashes of black, for a soft floral print that still feels cool and contemporary.

6. The Connect Pattern Chair

This chair’s chic Mid-Century shape is upholstered in a pattern that takes inspiration from the computer wires and telephone cords that have kept us all connected during the past two years. Striking swirls of black, graphite and grey on a textured weave fabric are complemented by a sumptuous black velvet cushion with lightning bolt stitching detail.

Choose your piping colour for added personalisation - go for black to complement this chair’s classic shape, or alternatively add a tech-inspired edge with a hit of neon turquoise or orange.
