Why We Won’t Say CBD Will Cure Anxiety: The Truth About CBD

A simple Google search for ‘CBD for anxiety’ returns more than 25 million results. The internet is awash with bold statements making claims centred around how CBD oil can cure anxiety and help reduce signs of stress and tension. And with 1 in 6 adults in the UK currently experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression, it’s no wonder many are keen to explore if CBD can help improve mental health. But you won’t find any such claims on the EthicaCBD website, which might strike you as strange given that we spend most of our time championing the benefits of CBD extracts.

Find out why we have made the decision not to proclaim CBD oil as the cure for anxiety. And let’s remind ourselves of the CBD and anxiety basics:

What is CBD?

CBD is one of the many cannabinoids that can be found naturally in the hemp plant. It interacts with the receptors inside your body that make up the endocannabinoid system, helping your body to maintain homeostasis and develop positive health and wellbeing. CBD comes in many different strengths, applications, and products, and is becoming an increasingly popular natural supplement.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a sensation of worry, unease or fear, and it can vary dramatically in its severity. Anxiety is perfectly normal and everyone experiences symptoms of stress and tension at some point in their lives. It only becomes a problem when it starts to have a negative impact on everyday circumstances. If anxiety becomes a reason not to do something then it is important to seek help, advise, and treatment.

The current science behind CBD and anxiety

The human body has a large number of receptors. These are protein-based structures attached to individual cells. Receptors are the body’s way of receiving and processing information and they play a vital role in the function of human systems. Scientists have demonstrated that CBD reacts with receptors in the brain which is interesting to note as some issues of anxiety and depression can stem from chemical irregularities.

Serotonin specifically is strongly believed to regulate mood and anxiety, and low serotonin levels are regularly linked to incidents of depression. Whilst we don’t currently know whether CBD boosts serotonin levels directly, the link between CBD’s receptor interaction and the body’s ability to regulate and respond to internal chemical processes is the subject of many studies.

Why CBD alone cannot cure anxiety

At EthicaCBD, whatever your desired outcome, we would always recommend that CBD is introduced as one element of a healthy lifestyle. And we would advise caution if expecting instant results when trying CBD oil for anxiety. As with any supplements, CBD is meant to assist you on your journey to wellness; it is not a shortcut. Our range of CBD products work best when accompanied by a healthy diet, regular exercise, and an active lifestyle. And for those specifically looking to ease anxiety, we would recommend trying mindfulness and meditation exercises to assist in the management of stress and tension.

What should CBD be taken for?

We believe that CBD can be taken to help you feel more natural. Whether you choose to try our premium whole plant CBD extracts or opt for something from our sport or skincare range, our innovative formulas are ethically sourced and sustainably manufactured to deliver fantastic results.

As we sell CBD products, we are legally restricted when it comes to discussing the benefits of CBD. But we strongly believe in the ability of our consumers to make their own informed choices. Just because we can’t say whether CBD oil has helped to cure anxiety, or whether CBD helps with depression and tension, it doesn’t mean there isn’t a plethora of information waiting to be discovered. We’d advise you to carefully consider the origin of your research, and choose a selection of sources in order to form a balanced opinion, but there is no shortage of articles, documents and papers out there for you to digest.

And when you’ve decided if CBD is right for you, we’ve got a long list of reasons for trusting EthicaCBD to provide you with the highest quality cannabinoid extracts.
